Effective today we are discontinuing six products:
- Vinyl decals
- Metallic decals
- Fabric transfers
- Wax seal stamps
- Silkscreens
- Metallic temporary tattoos
There are two simple reasons why:
- These are low-cost products that required a high degree of customer assistance (primarily on artwork setup), which meant we were often losing money on orders.
- As a small team, we found that our time was being drained by these items, and lowering our quality of service.
Despite our clever vectorizing engine, a large majority of orders for these products required extensive contact with the customer. Typically this was because a design was poorly suited to the manufacturing process, e.g. fonts/shapes were too small, the original design was too low-resolution to be properly vectorized, or the artwork needed to be converted from multi-color to single color.
As a result, we were spending a lot of team time helping customers adapt their artwork for manufacturing, on an order that might cost less than $15. Since we produce these items in the USA, we simply couldn't make the economics work.
We've always wanted to provide an exceptional level of service to all our customers, across all our products. If we can’t do something exceptionally well, we prefer not to do it at all.
I know many of you may be disappointed by this news, especially if you are someone who has experience creating production-ready artwork. If you are looking for alternative options to these products here are our suggestions:
- Decals: search for local sign shops near you
- Temporary tattoos: Tattly or Flash Tats
- Wax seals: Etsy
- Silkscreens: Holden's Screen Supply or ask your local screen printing shop to burn a custom screen and using Speedball inks from a local art supply store.
