Low Density Polyethylene

Common, opaque thermoplastic

What is Low Density Polyethylene?

Low density polyethylene (LDPE) is known for its chemical resistance and low cost. While it's an option for rigid application like Injection Molded Parts, LDPE is also commonly used as a film.

It's a thermoplastic which means it melts when heated to a certain temperature. This makes it a viable option for injection molding.

Why choose it?

  • Relatively low cost
  • Non-toxic
  • Water resistant

Why not choose it?

  • Higher risk of shrinking when injection molded
  • High permeability of gases
  • Low UV resistance
  • Very vulnerable to extreme temperatures
  • Low UV resistance
  • Derived from fossil fuels
