Child resistant metal tins are a new addition to the Child Resistant category. They can be a plastic-free option for packaging products like cannabis that require extra protection. There are options for completely plastic-free tins, or plastic lined tins that create an airtight seal.

The child resistant mechanism works with embossed dots on the lid and base. When aligned, these dots lock the container. To open the container, the customer needs to squeeze the base of the tin, then twist the top to release the lock and lift the lid.

Child resistant metal tins are cylindrical with options for printing, labeling, or embossing.

Compostable Stand Up Pouches and Compostable Zip Top Bags are the latest additions to the compostable plastic lineup.

Like all materials, compostable plastic has its pros and cons. There are various types of compostable plastic. What most of them have in common is a greater reliance on plant-based sources instead of fossil fuels. But not all compostable plastic is 100% plastic-free.

When compared to paper, compostable plastic (like traditional plastic) is water resistant and has more stretch and flexibility.

But if you're looking for more sustainable disposal options, not all compostable plastics will be a perfect fit. Many compostable plastics are only certified for industrial composting, not home composting. (Ask your supplier for compostability certifications to understand your options.)

Injection Molded Parts are now available from suppliers on Lumi and they can be made into nearly any form, shape, or size. Injection molding is a process that's used to make all kinds of products, from plastic furniture and toys to parts for appliances and hardware. In packaging, injection molding is most commonly used to make containers like bottles, jars, and tubs. There are stock color options, and custom colors are available at high volumes.

While there are several material options for injection molded parts, what they all have in common is that they’re thermoplastics. Thermoplastics are plastics that melt when they’re heated. To make injection molded parts, plastic pellets are heated and injected into molds. Then the items are cooled and pushed out of the molds.

Your supplier can help you choose the best type of plastic for your application based on your design and desired performance. In addition to your aesthetic preferences, they'll need to know if the item needs to be food safe, UV resistant, chemical resistant, or have other protective qualities like resistance to extremely hot or cold temperatures.

There are 4 new plastic containers available from suppliers on Lumi. With these new additions, there are now 10 containers to choose from in the Bottles and Jars category.

Poly foam inserts are now available from suppliers on Lumi, in various materials.

  • Diecut Poly Foam Inserts: Foam blocks, custom cut to nest your products inside a box. Available in various materials including PE, PU, XLPE, and EVA.
  • Eggcrate Foam Inserts: Convoluted foam sheets with a spongey feel, commonly used for vibration dampening.

A few new molded plastic options are available from suppliers on Lumi. Clamshell containers and Blister Packs are designed for shelf display, while Thermoformed Plastic Inserts are slipped into boxes for retail or ecommerce.

  • Thermoformed Plastic Inserts: Plastic trays, custom molded for specific products.
  • Clamshell Containers: A hinged plastic container, often with a printed card inside for branding and product details.
  • Blister Packs: Custom molded, plastic display packaging with a backing often made from paperboard or plastic.

Squeeze tubes are now available from suppliers on Lumi, in aluminum or plastic. Ideal for packaging creams, gels, or pastes.

Molded Pulp Inserts are rigid with a papery feel. Molded inserts can be used like trays, or doubled up to encapsulate your product from both sides.

To make these inserts, wet pulp is dried onto molds using high heat to harden it into a rigid shape. Molded pulp inserts can be made using wet press or dry press. Wet press tends to create a smoother surface, while dry press creates a more textured surface. The material selection also plays a role in the final texture. Talk to suppliers about your desired texture, and they can help you find the right material and process.

A new product collection to start sourcing on Lumi: Bottles and Jars.

Most of the bottles and jars currently available in the catalog are made from glass. When it comes to sustainability, glass has a lot to offer. It's endlessly recyclable and easily reusable — especially with refill systems. Glass can be clear, or opaque for light-sensitive products. To customize glass containers, you can use direct printing, or opt for printed labels. Get to know the new collection:

  • Glass Bottles: Clear with a narrow neck, best for holding liquids.
  • Glass Jars: Clear with a wide neck for easily filling with liquids or solids.
  • Glass Vials: Tubes with round or flat bases.
  • Metal Tins: They're not made of glass, but metal tins are also new to the catalog. Like glass, metal is endlessly recyclable and easily reused.

To top your glass containers, choose from various caps and pumps:
