The Color Scheme Suited for Almost Any Brand: White on Kraft

February 14, 2017

A custom box decked out in flood coated color is snazzy in its own right, but there’s a lot to be said for embracing the au natural look of your cardboard carton. Single color printing on kraft is cost effective form of box customization, but it could also really benefit your budget.

From natural minimalism to bold elegance, clean white ink is versatile enough to meet the needs of a broad scope of branding. Here are some white-on-kraft, single-color gems that will have you considering kraft as a permanent resident in your brand swatches.

This roundup includes inspiration from some of our favorite companies and designers around the web. Unless specified, these designs are not made by Lumi.

Embrace Minimalism

The Parachute Home brand is all about luxury comfort at an affordable price, so their boxes had to communicate a familiar elegance. It’s a difficult balance to strike, but since their logo already does it so well, Lumi printed the logo in along the edges of their range of box sizes. With the same size logo across multiple box sizes, negative space plays a different role for each size, making their packaging system feel strong and subtle.

Consider All Angles

With a hand drawn heart in their logo, Loeffler Randall has the conversational cool aesthetic going for them. Design firm Ro and Co played off of that, wrapping the logo around the top and two sides of the shoe box. For clarity and easy brand recognition, they included a smaller version of the full logo on the front of the box.

Stay Versatile

With a wide range of products comes a wide range of packaging. It’s not always easy to maintain consistency with varied packaging proportions, but your best bet may be to go easy on yourself.

House of Rym plays with their repeating pattern and logo in new ways on each box size, making their packaging collections fun and dynamic.

Be a Backdrop

Sometimes, the best thing your packaging can be is a stage for your product. Men’s grooming brand Ernest Supplies ordered their Lumi boxes to be a simple reflection of their promise of simple, effective products. As a bonus, the kraft texture complements their dedication to raw, natural ingredients.

Reimagine your logo

It may seem out of character for a software brand to use a graffiti-inspired logo on their boxes, or to have boxes at all, but Intercom is full of surprises. We really love the doorstep impression of their Lumi box. On first glance, you might not notice that the textured design on the Intercom boxes is their iconic logo, and honestly, that’s ok. The jagged texture of the design is a welcome departure from their vectorized online appearance.

Go Full Bleed

We loved making these boxes for Ugmonk as part of their recent rebrand. Founder/design reversed out the logo for a banded look. With the round characters of the new Ugmonk logo, the full bleed white is striking, yet subtle. And the fun touch of the logomark on the side delivers on the attention to detail that founder Jeff Sheldon is known for.
