Compared to other plastics, PET is the most widely recycled, with water bottles being the poster child feedstock. The most common use case for Recycled PET (rPET) is polyester clothing, but it can also be turned into rigid plastic (ie new bottles) or foam.
To make rPET into foam, gas is added to expand the polymers. Recycled PET foam has been used to provide everything from insulation for houses to structures for the blades of wind turbines.
