Mike Macadaan: The Silicon Valley of Leather – Well Made E3

May 30, 2016 · RSS · Apple Podcasts

If you use a Cord Taco to keep your earbuds from forming an insane knot, you have designer Mike Macadaan to thank for that. He started with a focus on web work doing user experience and design for companies such as Science Inc., Intuit, Disney, and Myspace (which still exists). Now instead of working only with pixels, he’s making leather products with his brand This is Ground. Since launching the Cord Taco, he's sold over one million.

“It was like real-time delight that I witnessed right in front of me over a wallet that took me ten minutes to make. It was this grounding moment as a designer.”

Lumi hosted a Dribbble meetup and our co-founder Stephan talked to Mike in front of a warehouse full of designers about his transition to physical goods, his background at MySpace, and selling Cord Tacos at Apple. Listen to the conversation on this episode of Well Made and see photos from the event below.
